Legal definition of Global Talent Visa

The Global Talent Visa is a type of visa intended for individuals with recognized skills in specific sectors who wish to work in the United Kingdom. It is aimed at potential leaders over 18 years old who work in the fields of digital technology, academic research, arts, and culture.

This type of visa allows its recipients to live and work in the United Kingdom as an employee, self-employed individual, or business manager. It also offers various benefits to its holders, including the freedom to choose the visa duration and renew it as many times as desired. Candidates can also apply with their family from the initial phase, and their spouse has the right to work full-time. With the Global Talent Visa, they have the opportunity to move between organizations, locations, and positions within their field of work.

The Global Talent visa is valid for a duration of 5 years, renewable multiple times. Each renewal period can last from 1 to 5 years, depending on the holder’s needs. After a certain period, recipients can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), granting the right to settle permanently in the United Kingdom. They can apply for this status after a period of 3 to 5 years from receiving their Global Talent visa. This timeframe varies depending on the expertise field of the recipients. 

To become eligible for the Global Talent visa, applicants must obtain endorsement from one of the designated endorsing bodies mandated by the UK Home Office. In this case, they can seek support from Tech Nation if they work in the field of digital technology. For candidates in the arts and culture sector, they should approach Arts Council England. Applicants can also seek endorsement from the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society, or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Possible pathways to obtain the Global Talent Visa

• University and Research Nominations : This option is available to individuals holding an eligible position in a UK institution, with responsibilities in leadership, academic development, research, or innovation.
• Individual Fellowships : For this option, one must obtain a fellowship endorsed by the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, or the Royal Society.
• Approved Funder Sponsorships : Candidates who receive funding from one of the approved funders by the UKRI can obtain the Global Talent visa through this option. Peer Review: This option is for researchers evaluated by the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering, or the Royal Society.
