In the United States, holding this immigration status grants these individuals privileges and special opportunities such as easier access to a green card or permanent residency.

The status of an alien of extraordinary ability is associated with the O visa, also known as the O-1 visa. This residence permit is typically granted to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional skills or extraordinary expertise in their field. It allows these beneficiaries to temporarily work in the United States within their specific domain. In this context, the American immigration system offers several types of residence permits :

  • Visa O-1A: Intended for individuals with extraordinary abilities in sciences, education, business, or athletics.
  • Visa O-1B: Designed for individuals with exceptional skills in the arts or remarkable achievements in the film or television industry.
